About Plaza de Opera Hostels & Pensions:

The area around the Plaza de Opera is referred to as the "Barrio de los Austrias", one of Madrid's most historical neighborhoods next to the Royal Palace and Royal Theater. The Plaza de Opera, officially named "Plaza de Isabel II", is a very short walk to the Plaza Mayor as well as the Puerta del Sol - along the pedestrian Calle de Arenal. Opera and the "Barrio de los Austrias" has some beautiful architecture and is known for its wide-open green spaces. Opera also has it own metro station ((METRO: L2 y L5) and the plaza itself is now pedestrian. This area has several hostels (called "hostales" in Spanish) and I've made a complete directory/list of them below for those whom are seeking safe, clean, inexpensive places to stay. Afterall, you're not there to sleep - although everyone wants to sleep cheap in Madrid.
